Gloom
Body Armor
Gloom is a defensive runeword in Diablo 2 Resurrected created with Fal + Um + Pul in any 3-socket body armor. While it offers solid defensive stats including +200-260% enhanced defense and all resistances +45, it's generally considered a poor value proposition compared to cheaper alternatives.
Defensive Stats
Gloom provides strong defensive bonuses: +200-260% enhanced defense, all resistances +45, half freeze duration, +10% faster hit recovery, and 5% damage taken goes to mana. The 15% chance to cast level 3 Dim Vision when struck can occasionally blind ranged attackers, and +10 to strength helps meet equipment requirements. The main drawback is -3 to light radius, which darkens your screen.
Why It's Rarely Used
The fundamental problem with Gloom is that Smoke offers +50% all resistances and +20% faster hit recovery for just Nef + Lum—far cheaper runes with better defensive utility. Meanwhile, Duress provides similar defense with offensive bonuses for nearly the same cost. The runes required for Gloom (Um and Pul) are valuable for upgrading items and other runewords, making Gloom an inefficient use of resources. It's outclassed in nearly every scenario by more cost-effective alternatives.
