Pattern is an Assassin claw runeword added in Diablo 2 Resurrected Patch 2.4. Created with Tal, Ort, and Thul runes in any 3-socket assassin claw, it's available at level 23 and serves as a solid early-game option for Martial Arts and Trap Assassins.

Versatile Elemental Damage

Pattern adds damage from every element: 17-32 Fire Damage, 1-50 Lightning Damage, 3-14 Cold Damage, and +75 Poison Damage over 5 seconds. This elemental diversity helps against enemies with varying resistances in Normal and early Nightmare. The +40-80% Enhanced Damage (variable roll) provides a decent physical boost, while +15 to All Resistances offers useful defensive coverage.

Faster Block Rate for Claw Block

The standout defensive feature is +30% Faster Block Rate, which increases Claw Block speed—previously only available from Guardian Angel armor. For Dragon Talon kick Assassins, when using Pattern in the main hand, all bonuses except Enhanced Damage work with kicks, including the elemental damage. The +6 to Strength and +6 to Dexterity help meet equipment requirements early on.

Best Bases and Progression

Make Pattern in a Quhab for higher base damage while keeping the level 21 requirement, or use any normal 3-socket claw you find. All three runes drop from Nightmare Countess. Replace Pattern with Plague for Trap Assassins or dual Mosaic for Martial Arts builds once you reach endgame.
