Metamorphosis is a game-changing Patch 2.6 runeword in Diablo 2 Resurrected designed exclusively for shapeshifting Druids. Created with Io + Cham + Fal in a 3-socket helmet, this ladder-introduced runeword unlocks unique dual-buff mechanics that revolutionize how shapeshifters play.

The Mark System

What makes Metamorphosis truly unique are its two stackable 3-minute buffs. Striking enemies in Werewolf form grants Mark of the Wolf, providing +30% Bonus to Attack Rating and +40% Increased Maximum Life. Striking in Werebear form grants Mark of the Bear, adding +25% Attack Speed and 20% Physical Damage Reduction. The revolutionary aspect is that both marks stack when you alternate forms, lasting 180 seconds each and persisting even after removing the helmet.

Shapeshifter Supremacy

The +5 to Shape Shifting Skills combined with +25% Crushing Blow makes this helmet a cornerstone for both Werewolf and Werebear builds. The dual marks create a powerful pre-buffing strategy where you strike once in your secondary form to gain both buffs, then switch to your main form for the remainder of combat. This grants offensive and defensive bonuses that no other single item can provide.

Best Uses & Builds

Fury Werewolf Druid

The primary beneficiary, Fury Werewolves gain massive life from Mark of the Wolf while the crushing blow helps against bosses. Start combat in Werebear to proc Mark of the Bear, then switch to Werewolf for devastating attack speed and survivability.

Maul Werebear Druid

Werebears benefit from the tankiness of both marks combined. The attack speed from Mark of the Bear compensates for the slower Maul animation, while the life boost from Mark of the Wolf enhances survivability in melee range.

Hybrid Shapeshifters

Players who frequently switch between both forms get maximum value, as maintaining both marks becomes natural during combat rather than requiring pre-buffing.

Additional Benefits

Beyond the marks, Metamorphosis provides Cannot Be Frozen, +50-80% Enhanced Defense, +10 to Strength and Vitality, and All Resistances +10. These stats fill crucial defensive gaps while the crushing blow helps with Uber Tristram and other boss encounters.

Rune Cost & Availability

The Cham rune requirement makes this expensive despite being only three runes total. However, Cham is underutilized in other runewords, making Metamorphosis one of its best applications. The Io and Fal runes are easily farmable from Nightmare and Hell Countess.

Best Bases

  • Druid Pelts - Pelts with +skills to your main abilities are ideal. Look for +2-3 to Werewolf/Werebear, Lycanthropy, and your primary attack skill (Fury or Maul)
