Kingslayer
Swords/Axes
Kingslayer is a mid-tier weapon runeword in Diablo 2 Resurrected that combines solid physical damage with specialized boss-killing mechanics. Created with Mal + Um + Gul + Fal in 4-socket swords or axes, it delivers reliable performance against high-HP targets through 33% Crushing Blow and 50% Open Wounds.
Boss-Slaying Power
Kingslayer earns its name through its effectiveness against Ubers and Dclone. The 33% Crushing Blow removes a percentage of enemy life per hit, particularly devastating against bosses with massive HP pools. Combined with 50% Open Wounds and Prevent Monster Heal, this runeword excels at preventing regeneration while steadily depleting even the tankiest enemies. The +1 to Vengeance adds elemental damage to physical attacks, helping break immunities in Hell difficulty.
Stats and Utility
Beyond boss killing, Kingslayer provides +230-270% Enhanced Damage, +30% Increased Attack Speed, and -25% Target Defense that works on all enemies including bosses. The +10 to Strength helps meet gear requirements while 40% Extra Gold provides steady income during farming runs.
Best Bases and Builds
Optimal Weapon Bases
- Berserker Axe - Fast base speed and manageable strength requirements make this the top choice for Barbarians
- Phase Blade - Indestructible and lightning-fast attack speed, ideal for classes prioritizing IAS
- Colossus Sword - High base damage for maximum physical output
Character Synergies
Whirlwind Barbarians and Zealot Paladins benefit most from Kingslayer's attack speed and Crushing Blow combination. Fury Druids leverage the fast attack speed for consistent proc application. While less common than Grief or Breath of the Dying, Kingslayer serves as a solid alternative when combined with other CB gear like Gore Rider boots to reach 100% Crushing Blow.
Rune Cost and Availability
The rune combination sits in mid-tier territory. Gul is the highest rune required and can be cubed from two Ist runes. Hell Countess, Travincal Council, and Lower Kurast super chests provide reliable farming locations. While not cheap, Kingslayer costs significantly less than top-tier runewords, making it accessible for mid-progression characters hunting Ubers or farming high-density areas with champion packs.
