Fury
Melee Weapons
Fury is a melee-focused runeword in Diablo 2 Resurrected created with Jah + Gul + Eth in 3-socket melee weapons. While expensive due to the Jah rune requirement, this runeword offers excellent attack speed and deadly melee modifiers, making it a viable option for specific Barbarian and Assassin builds.
Frenzy Barbarian Synergy
The standout feature of Fury is its +5 to Frenzy (Barbarian Only) bonus—the only runeword in the game offering this skill boost. Combined with 40% Increased Attack Speed and +209% Enhanced Damage, Fury creates a powerful weapon for Frenzy Barbarians who dual-wield for maximum attack speed.
The Ignores Target Defense property ensures near-perfect hit chance regardless of enemy defense, while -25% Target Defense further reduces enemy avoidance. The 20% Bonus to Attack Rating supplements this, making Fury exceptionally reliable for landing hits.
Deadly Melee Modifiers
Fury excels at inflicting devastating status effects. The 66% Chance of Open Wounds causes enemies to bleed over time—particularly valuable against high-health bosses and Diablo Clone. 33% Chance of Deadly Strike doubles physical damage on successful hits, creating massive burst damage potential when combined with high attack speed.
6% Life Stolen Per Hit provides solid sustain for melee combat, while Prevent Monster Heal stops enemy regeneration, essential for boss fights where sustained damage matters.
Whirlwind Assassin Application
Beyond Barbarians, Fury finds a specialized niche with Whirlwind Assassins using claw weapons. The massive 40% IAS enables claws to strike multiple times per second during whirlwind, applying open wounds, deadly strike, and target defense reduction with each hit. This off-meta build benefits from Fury's speed and melee modifiers, though it faces competition from Plague runeword which offers skill-based bonuses.
Limitations & Alternatives
The primary drawback of Fury is its Jah rune cost versus actual performance. While the stats are solid, Grief offers superior damage output at similar rune cost (using Lo instead of Jah). Grief's flat damage bonus and ignore target defense make it the preferred choice for most melee builds.
Fury lacks Crushing Blow (found on Grief, Last Wish, and other top-tier weapons) and Indestructible (preventing ethereal base usage for maximum damage). The enhanced damage bonus, while respectable at 209%, falls short of elite options like Breath of the Dying or Death.
Best Use Cases
Where Fury shines is as a budget alternative to Ber-based runewords for players who've found a Jah but not yet acquired Ber. For Frenzy Barbarians specifically, the skill bonus and attack speed make it competitive until upgrading to dual Grief or specialized setups.
The open wounds chance makes Fury functional for Diablo Clone encounters, where bleeding damage supplements physical output against his massive health pool.
Best Bases
For Barbarians, use fast one-handed weapons like Berserker Axe, Phase Blade (indestructible, no repairs needed), or Ettin Axe. For Assassins, Runic Talons or Feral Claws maximize claw-specific bonuses. Superior bases with enhanced damage provide marginal benefit but aren't essential given the runeword's fixed ED.
