The +50-80% Better Chance of Getting Magic Items and +(0.5 Per Character Level) to Experience Gained make it popular for magic finding characters.
Socket Variance Problem
Tomb Reaver's effectiveness depends entirely on how many sockets it spawns with. A 3-socket version filled with Ist runes provides 105-130% MF total, making it one of the best magic finding weapons. A 1-socket version is significantly worse. The stat requirements also vary - 1 socket needs 155 Strength/93 Dexterity, while 3 sockets requires 165 Strength/103 Dexterity.
Magic Find Builds
Tomb Reaver works best on Barbarians who can invest in strength naturally and use Find Item for double corpse rolls. The experience bonus helps speed leveling, though at high levels (90+) it becomes negligible. The +60-120% Enhanced Damage, cold damage, and fire damage provide decent combat capability while magic finding.
Practical Use
Use a 3-socket Tomb Reaver from levels 84+ for dedicated magic finding. Socket it with Ist or Lem runes for maximum MF. However, most casters prefer dual Spirit runewords or Heart of the Oak for better FCR and skills, relegating Tomb Reaver to melee characters. It's a niche item for specific farming builds rather than a universal weapon.
