This exceptional hammer serves as a utility weapon for physical attackers who need curse support during Nightmare and early Hell difficulty.
Amplify Damage Access
The Gavel of Pain provides +130-160% Enhanced Damage, +50% Damage to Undead, and Adds 12-30 Damage, delivering respectable physical offense. The unique feature is Level 8 Amplify Damage (3 Charges)—the only weapon in the game with Amplify charges. This lets physical builds break Physical Immunes in Hell difficulty without relying on mercenaries or party members. The weapon also has 5% Chance to Cast Level 1 Amplify Damage on Striking for occasional curse procs.
Toolbox Weapon Design
The Gavel of Pain functions best as a swap weapon—you switch to it, cast Amplify Damage on Physical Immune packs, then switch back to your main weapon. The Indestructible modifier means it never needs repairs, perfect for a utility slot. The Attacker Takes Damage of 26 and 5% Chance to Cast Level 1 Iron Maiden When Struck provide minor defensive benefits.
Specialized Role
This weapon works from level 45 onwards, primarily as a curse delivery tool rather than a main weapon. The very slow attack speed and moderate damage make it unsuitable for primary use. However, having Amplify Damage access can be game-changing for physical builds struggling with Hell Immunes. Keep The Gavel of Pain in your inventory for curse support, but don't expect to wield it as your primary weapon—its value lies in utility, not damage output. Once you have access to Infinity or other immunity-breaking options, this weapon becomes obsolete.
