This elite Winged Axe combines 33% Chance of Open Wounds, Prevent Monster Heal, and—most importantly—33% Chance To Cast Level 3 Amplify Damage On Striking, creating a devastating damage amplification loop that makes it the preferred choice for serious Throw Barbarians.
Amplify Damage Synergy
Lacerator's defining strength is its Amplify Damage proc, which effectively doubles your physical damage output when active. Combined with Open Wounds (bleeding damage over time) and Prevent Monster Heal, you're dealing sustained damage that ignores enemy regeneration. The +150-210% Enhanced Damage and 30% Increased Attack Speed provide solid baseline performance, making this weapon lethal even before the curse procs.
Optimal Usage
Double Throw Barbarians are the primary beneficiaries, as rapid throw speed maximizes Amplify Damage uptime. The weapon is particularly dominant against bosses and Uber content where the Open Wounds and amplified physical damage shine. An ethereal Lacerator is one of the most valuable throwing weapons in the game—the increased base damage pairs perfectly with Amplify Damage, and the automatic replenishment makes durability irrelevant.
Trade-offs & Competition
Lacerator competes with Warshrike for the "best throwing weapon" title. While Warshrike offers 50% Deadly Strike and Piercing Attack for superior AOE clear, Lacerator's curse and bleed effects deal more single-target damage to bosses. The Hit Causes Monster To Flee 50% can be annoying in some situations, causing enemies to scatter, though this is negligible against bosses that cannot flee.
Farming & Value
Lacerator drops from high-level Hell Act 5 content with treasure class 81. Perfect rolls and especially ethereal versions are expensive on the trade market. For socketing, many players add a 15% IAS jewel to hit faster breakpoints or an Ohm for additional cold damage. This weapon remains viable through all endgame content including Ubers, making it a long-term investment for throwing builds.
