Hone Sundan is an exceptional unique Yari that stands out as one of the most valuable mercenary weapons in Diablo 2 Resurrected. What makes Hone Sundan exceptional is its 45% Chance of Crushing Blow combined with 3 sockets and Repairs 1 Durability in 10 Seconds. This holy trinity of stats means you can find an ethereal version (which has 50% more base damage) without worrying about durability loss. The Crushing Blow is devastating against high-HP targets like Ubers and Act Bosses, stripping away percentage-based chunks of health with every hit. Socket it with Shael runes, jewels, or even Lo runes for additional Crushing Blow, and you have a mercenary weapon that punches well above its weight class.

Mercenary Dominance

An ethereal Hone Sundan upgraded to Ghost Spear becomes one of the best non-runeword mercenary weapons in the game. The combination of high damage from ethereal status, built-in Crushing Blow, and customizable sockets makes it incredibly versatile. Value and Acquisition

Hone Sundan drops frequently enough from Nightmare Mephisto to be accessible, but finding a perfect ethereal roll with high enhanced damage takes patience. The non-ethereal version is functional but loses much of its appeal compared to runewords like Insight. However, an ethereal Hone Sundan—especially when upgraded—remains competitive even in endgame content, making it worth farming for. This is one of the few unique spears that maintains relevance throughout Hell difficulty and beyond.
