War Gauntlets

Hellmouth war gauntlets suffer from being a gimmick item with underwhelming execution in Diablo 2 Resurrected. While the concept of auto-casting fire spells sounds appealing, the low skill levels and proc rates render these gloves impractical for serious use.

Weak Proc Mechanics

Hellmouth features 4% Chance to Cast Level 12 Firestorm On Striking and 2% Chance to Cast Level 4 Meteor On Striking. The problems are immediate: level 12 Firestorm is weak even in Nightmare difficulty, while level 4 Meteor deals negligible damage and has poor aim. Fast attackers proc these spells occasionally, but the damage output fails to justify equipment slots that could hold Laying of Hands, Dracul's Grasp, or damage-focused alternatives.

Supporting Stats

The Adds 15-72 Fire Damage provides respectable offense for physical builds, and +15 Fire Absorb offers modest protection against fire damage. However, neither stat compensates for the lack of attack speed, life leech, or crushing blow—modifiers that define competitive glove choices.

Novelty Over Function

Hellmouth appeals primarily to players experimenting with proc-based builds or enjoying the visual spectacle of random meteors. For practical purposes, the gloves fall short across all difficulty levels. Even budget alternatives like Bloodfist or crafted gloves typically provide more tangible benefits.

Trade value is minimal. Hellmouth occupies the unfortunate position of being interesting in concept but disappointing in execution, remembered more for what it could have been than what it is.
