Griswold's Edge

Griswold's Edge is a unique normal Broad Sword that fails to live up to its legendary namesake in Diablo 2 Resurrected. Despite being named after one of Diablo lore's most famous blacksmiths, this weapon delivers underwhelming performance with the added frustration of knockback mechanics.

The Knockback Problem

The most notable feature of Griswold's Edge is its knockback effect, which sounds defensive but creates significant gameplay problems. Knockback pushes enemies away from the character with each hit, making it harder to maintain consistent contact with targets, especially for skills like Zeal or Double Swing that require staying in melee range.

While knockback can occasionally prevent being surrounded, it more often frustrates players by forcing them to chase fleeing enemies. For builds relying on attack speed and sustained contact, this mechanic actively undermines combat effectiveness rather than enhancing it.

Mediocre Offensive Stats

Beyond the problematic knockback, Griswold's Edge offers purely physical damage bonuses without any leech, crushing blow, or other utility stats. The enhanced damage provides acceptable DPS for level 17, but by this point in Normal difficulty, players have access to significantly better options.

The Broad Sword base requires 48 strength with no special attack speed modifiers, making it an average weapon base at best. The lack of defensive stats, resistances, or skill bonuses means the sword provides nothing beyond basic physical damage that's quickly outclassed.

Named Disappointment

The association with Griswold creates expectations this weapon utterly fails to meet. Players finding an item connected to such a famous character expect something special, only to discover a forgettable low-level unique with an annoying knockback mechanic.

Upgrading to Battle Sword and eventually Conquest Sword increases damage but doesn't address the fundamental issues. The knockback remains problematic, and investing resources to upgrade such a mediocre weapon makes no sense when superior alternatives are readily available.

Most players vendor Griswold's Edge immediately or use it briefly before replacing it within an act or two. The sword serves primarily as a reminder that not every legendary name translates to legendary equipment.
