Requiring level 44 and a hefty 133 strength, this heavy shield offers the highest base blocking chance of any unique shield in the game, making it a defensive powerhouse for characters who can meet its requirements.

Maximum Blocking Potential

With +30% Increased Chance of Blocking, Gerke's Sanctuary allows Paladins to reach 84% base block chance—the highest of any shield in Diablo 2. Even Druids, Necromancers, and Sorceresses can achieve 74% base block. This extraordinary blocking makes Gerke's extremely valuable for max block builds, particularly in Hardcore where every blocked attack could save your life. The shield also provides +180-240% Enhanced Defense for solid physical protection.

Damage Reduction and Resistances

The shield excels at damage mitigation with All Resistances +20-30, Damage Reduced By 11-16, Magic Damage Reduced By 14-18, and Replenish Life +15. The combination of high block, damage reduction, and resistances makes this one of the tankiest shields available. However, as a heavy Pavise, it reduces movement speed by 10%, and it lacks faster block rate, meaning blocked attacks will slow your actions. While Gerke's is excellent for pure defense, most players eventually prefer lighter shields like Spirit or Stormshield that offer better mobility and blocking speed.
