Frostwind is an elite unique Cryptic Sword that delivers extreme cold damage while granting access to the Druid skill Arctic Blast. This one-handed sword specializes in freezing enemies, though its practical applications are limited by the abundance of cold immunes in Hell difficulty.

Arctic Arsenal

Frostwind packs devastating cold damage with Adds 237-486 Cold Damage, 6 sec. Duration, among the highest cold damage ranges in the game. The weapon provides +7-14 To Arctic Blast, the only unique item with this modifier, allowing Barbarians to use this Druid skill when dual-wielding Frostwinds. Additional cold mechanics include Freezes Target and 7-15% Half Freeze Duration against you. The +180-230% Enhanced Damage and +25% Increased Attack Speed provide solid base stats, while +4 Cold Absorb offers minor protection.

Limited Endgame Potential

Despite impressive numbers, Frostwind struggles in practical applications. The Arctic Blast mechanic is interesting in theory—dual-wielding Barbarians can achieve respectable cold damage—but the execution is clunky and mana-intensive. In Hell difficulty, cold immunes are everywhere, rendering the weapon ineffective in many areas. The high requirements (99 Strength, 109 Dexterity, level 70) make it accessible only late in progression. While it can work for leveling or as a novelty build, most players prefer weapons with more versatile damage types or better utility stats. The weapon sees occasional use in meme builds or for players seeking unique playstyles, but it remains one of the least popular elite unique swords for serious endgame content.
