Crescent Moon is a unique amulet in Diablo 2 Resurrected that specializes in dual mana and life leech. While functionally sound, it remains an underutilized choice at endgame, overshadowed by skill bonuses and resistances that more classes desperately need.

Mana & Life Sustain

Crescent Moon's primary appeal lies in its exceptional mana recovery mechanics. The combination of 11-15% Mana Stolen Per Hit and 10% Damage Taken Goes to Mana creates reliable sustain for melee builds that deal consistent damage. The 3-6% Life Stolen Per Hit adds survivability against physical enemies. For melee casters—like Whirlwind Barbarians or rarely-seen physical Sorceresses using Energy Shield—these stats synergize well with sustained attack strategies.

Limited Endgame Viability

The core problem is opportunity cost. At level 50+, players typically wear amulets that provide critical resistances, skill bonuses, or attributes. Crescent Moon offers none of these. A Sorceress needs resistances or +skills. A Barbarian benefits more from +All Skills. Even the Magic Damage Reduced By 10 is modest compared to what other unique amulets provide.

The -2 to Light Radius is situational at best—useful for avoiding monster detection, but irrelevant in most endgame scenarios where survival depends on kills per second, not stealth.

Niche Use Cases

Crescent Moon finds marginal use in specific builds that struggle with mana management while relying on physical attacks: some untwinked melee builds during progression, or theoretical hybrid builds that rarely see play. It's functionally superior to nothing, but practically inferior to almost every other unique amulet at its level.

For most players, Crescent Moon remains a curiosity—an item with genuine utility mechanics that D2R's itemization has rendered obsolete through better alternatives.
