With its fast attack speed, life leech, and defensive bonuses, this sword excels during Acts 1-2 of Normal difficulty before being replaced by more powerful options.
Complete Early-Game Package
What makes Blood Crescent remarkable for its level is the combination of offensive and defensive stats. The 15% Life Stolen Per Hit provides excellent sustainability for melee characters, while 33% Chance of Open Wounds adds damage over time that's particularly effective against bosses and tough monsters.
The +60-80% Enhanced Damage and 15% Increased Attack Speed deliver solid DPS, enhanced further by the Scimitar's naturally fast -20 weapon speed modifier. Defensively, All Resistances +15 and +15 to Life address survivability concerns that plague low-level melee builds.
When to Use
Blood Crescent shines brightest from levels 7-20, making it ideal for characters progressing through Normal Acts 1-2. The combination of leech, open wounds, and attack speed makes it effective for Barbarians, Paladins using Zeal, and even Amazons experimenting with melee builds.
The weapon can even be equipped to Iron Wolf mercenaries for the resistance bonus, providing them with much-needed elemental protection until better caster weapons become available. However, this is a niche use case that few players actually pursue.
Rapid Obsolescence
Despite its strong early performance, Blood Crescent becomes obsolete quickly. By the time characters reach Act 3 Normal, better rares and runewords like Steel or Malice provide superior damage. The level 7 requirement means players often find it too late to get significant use from it.
Upgrading through the cube recipe to Cutlass (exceptional) increases damage but raises the level requirement to 30, at which point far better weapons are available. Most players who find Blood Crescent either use it briefly or skip it entirely in favor of progressing to mid-game alternatives.
