Athena's Wrath

Athena's Wrath

Battle Scythe

Athena's Wrath attempts to bridge the gap between melee weapon and caster tool for Druids with its +2 to Elemental Skills bonus. Unfortunately, it fails at both roles due to fundamental design flaws.

The Two-Handed Problem

Elemental Druids need Faster Cast Rate to reach good casting breakpoints, but Athena's Wrath provides none. Being two-handed prevents using a shield, meaning you lose the massive FCR and skill bonuses from Spirit shield. By level 42, most Druids have already made Spirit runewords in weapons and shields, providing +4 skills, 35% FCR, and additional survivability.

Melee Hybrid Attempts

Even for hybrid builds combining elemental spells with shapeshifting, Athena's Wrath underperforms. The 30% IAS helps attack speed, but shapeshifters prefer weapons with better attack speed bonuses or specific stats for their forms. The +100 to Life provides survivability, but not enough to justify the weapon slot.

Skip this weapon entirely. If you find it, sell it to vendors. Elemental Druids should use Spirit runeword, and shapeshifters have far better weapon options available at this level.
